Successful Career and its Attributes
Career planning should be done regularly so as to move forward in our jobs and
careers and hence you should start as early as possible. It should be taken as an
enjoyable activity which is liberating and fulfilling and it helps you to achieve your
goals in your career. It should be taken as a rewarding and positive experience.
Career planning should be done annually. Block all distractions and focus on your
career and think what you really want to get out of your career and life. When career
planning is done annually, you feel more secure in career choice and you will be
prepared for any uncertainties that lie ahead in your jobs and career. Once it is done,
take time off to review and reflect on the path; whether it was the correct decision.
Also think of the things that you could have done differently. Your attitudes, likes,
dislikes, needs and wants might have changed and hence move on with the new
passion. Even after the review and self-assessment, if you find that you wish to
continue with the same decision, and then your choice was correct. Sometime your
hobbies could be made to transform into a career which will give you dedication and
success. Keep a record of accomplishments in work so that a powerful resume is
always ready in hand. Identify the transferable skills in you which would be valuable
for many other jobs. Information about trends in career and job is also important
and vital for long-term success. Once you gain knowledge about career trends, you
can concentrate on developing a unique set of accomplishments, skills and
education. Exploring new education and training opportunities also leads to power
and success. We should never miss an opportunity to learn and grow more as a
person and hence always find new training opportunities
How to Influence People
One of the most important skills that you need to develop for success in life is to
influence people. By influencing people you help people to do better and encourage
them to see things from a different view point
An interesting note on floating corals.
The floating stone on a closer examination reveals that it is a coral. Corals of the genus Favia, Platygyra etc. are kept floating in a tank filled with water. The scientific explanations of the floating corals are examined.
The scientific significance of floating coral are here described
Applications of Molecular Markers in Fisheries and Aquaculture
Organisms are characterized by unique biological attributes which enhance their fitness and survival to a particular environment. The driving force for enhanced survival and fitness is the genetic variation inherent in an individual as well as in a population. The information regarding genetic diversity and variation has wide application in research on evolution, conservation and management of natural populations. The advent of DNA cloning and sequencing methods have contributed immensely to the development of molecular taxonomy and population genetics over the last 2 decades. These modern methods have revolutionized the field of molecular taxonomy and population genetics with improved analytical power and precision
Genetic and Genomic Approaches to Understand Climate Mediated Adaptation in marine Organisms
Genetic and Genomic Approaches to Understand Climate Mediated Adaptation in marine Organism
Importance of Molecular Taxonomy in Fishery Biology Investigations In: ICAR Sponsored Winter School on Recent Advances in Fishery Biology Techniques for Biodiversity Evaluation and Conservation, 1-21 December 2018, Kochi.
Fitness and survival of diverse organisms to a particular environment is dependent on the unique
biological attributes of a species. The inherent genetic variation within species and populations
provides the necessary impetus to thrive in the presence of dynamic environmental forces.
Understanding the genetic and morphological diversity is the key to ensure sustainability of ocean
resources, identify adaptive evolution patterns and manage ocean resources. Molecular taxonomic
investigations have undergone tremendous advancements in the last decade due to the advent of
sequencing methods. The power and precision associated with molecular taxonomic investigations
have contributed immensely to the advancement in knowledge in many areas of biological science.
Several molecular markers are in use for understanding intra- and inter- specific patterns of
diversity in marine populations and they can be characterized as Type I and II. When a marker is
associated with genes of known function they belong to Type I category and when associated with
genes of unknown function, they belong to Type II category
Biodiversity and community structure of coral reefs around Krusadai Island, Gulf of Mannar, India
This paper gives the results of the surveys conducted in the Krusadai Reef for the assessment of the
coral cover and biodiversity during March-May 2005, following the Line Intercept Transect Method.
A total of 35 hard coral species were recorded in this reef. The total live, dead and bleached coral
cover for the reef as a whole was estimated as 54.9, 18.7 and 15.4% respectively and the remaining
part was covered with soft corals, sponges, seagrasses, sand and rubble. Dead coral cover was
dominated by porites. Further, relative abundance values were derived for each species and they
were assigned the status dominant/ abundant/ common/ uncommon/ rare. Although, no species was
assigned тАЬdominantтАЭ status, Acropora formosa belonged to the category тАЬabundantтАЭ and all other
species were either of тАЬcommonтАЭ or тАЬuncommonтАЭ status only. Fisher and Shannon diversity indices
were highest (3.68 and 2.14 respectively ) in 8th site. PielouтАЩs evenness was highest in 7th site. SIMPER
analysis revealed that Acropora formosa (33.95%) along with Acropora humilis (15.85%), Porites
mannarensis (12.97%) and Montipora digitata (12.07%) were responsible for dissimilarity among
various sites in the island. The average similarity in species composition was 20.5%

Integrative taxonomy тАУ Methods and Applications
Taxonomy is the discipline in biology aimed at characterizing
and naming taxa and taxonomy plays a major role in
conserving biodiversity. The central unit of taxonomy is
species and generating biological information requires
naming of species. Thousands of species are being named
every year since the advent of Linnaean nomenclature in 1758.
Alpha taxonomy relates to species level characterizations
whereas beta taxonomy is related to higher level studies.
The advent of new tools for species level identification of
groups of organisms has contributed immensely to the rapid
development of this branch of science. DNA sequencing
technologies, access to museum collections, information about
phyogenetics and phylogeography, advances in evolutionary
studies and computer tomography have revolutionized
conventional taxonomy in such a way that conventional
taxonomy could be supplemented and complemented with
information generated from all the above approaches. Species
delimitation and a scientific consensus on naming could be
achieved now by using a combination of different methods
along with traditional taxonomy tools and this is the objective
of integrative taxonomy. The term тАЬintegrative taxonomyтАЭ
was coined by Dayrat, 2005 to describe a comprehensive
approach to naming species
